Aviation Exploring Post
Aviation Exploring Post 816 has been in existence for about ten years. It is open to young men and young women from the ages of 14-21. There are many adults in the Post as well, with a few that have no youth in the program, but have interest, skills, and experiences to share with others.
There is no advancement work as is found in a Boy Scout Troop. During each month, the Post typically meets on one Saturday morning for a field trip and one Sunday evening for a guest speaker. Some of the Field trips have included various Fly-Ins and Air Shows, The National Weather Service, the Airport control tower, Museums such as the Commemorative Air Force and Texas Air Museum, Simulators such as Flight Safety, the Galaxy C5A at Lackland AFB, and T38s at Randolph AFB, and manufacturers such as Mooney Aircraft or Lockheed-Martin. Guest speakers might range from WWII WASPs, WWII Pilots, Stewardesses from the Golden Age of Airliners, Aircraft controllers, and Flight Instructors. As you can see, there is something for everyone.
